A complete foundation in heating, cooling, refrigeration, electrical controls, and the hands-on diagnostic skills you'll use on the job every day.

HVAC fundamentals, heat transfer, and the refrigeration cycle including system components and airflow

What Does an HVAC Technician Do?HVAC technicians install, service, and repair the heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems that keep homes, businesses, restaurants, and industrial facilities running. A typical day might move from installing a new residential AC unit in the morning, to servicing a commercial rooftop system in the afternoon, to troubleshooting a walk-in cooler at a grocery store before the shift ends. The work is a mix of physical labor, technical reasoning, and code compliance. Technicians read schematics and blueprints, use gauges, meters, and diagnostic tools to find faults, install and braze refrigerant lines, wire controls and thermostats, and test systems for safe operation. Every job has to meet mechanical and electrical code, so understanding the code is as much a part of the trade as the hands-on work. HCI's program is built to give you the foundation Houston-area employers expect: real lab hours on live systems, working knowledge of residential and commercial equipment, and the ability to diagnose and fix problems from day one.
